Local MP Robert Largan has welcomed research published by Network Rail on improving access to Chinley Station.
Currently, the station has no step-free access, which means that many local residents find it difficult to use the station, and those with physical disabilities cannot use the station at all.
Earlier this year, Network Rail’s Design Delivery team carried out a viability survey of the station, looking at several different step-free options. Local MP Robert Largan and Chinley & Buxworth Transport Group met with Network Rail to discuss the proposals.
Mr Largan has raised the issue in Parliament and has a long-standing petition on the issue, which you can sign at robertlargan.co.uk/chinleystation.
You can read the details of the potential options and the estimated cost of each at chinleybuxworthtg.co.uk/campaigns.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
"Together with Chinley & Buxworth Transport Group, I've long campaigned for step-free access to Chinley station.
"I'm pleased Network Rail's published report is looking at several different options. The critical challenge now is securing capital funding from the Government, given that at least £3.2 million will be needed.
"But this report puts us in a position to make a solid case, and is an important step forward.
"I’m determined to improve our local public transport, and that includes making it more accessible for everyone.”
