Local MP Robert Largan recently volunteered at Bellies Not Bins, a food bank in Hadfield, with Councillor Ollie Cross.
Robert and Ollie helped put together food parcels for families in need from Hadfield, Padfield, and Tintwistle. The parcels included food from a range of local supermarkets, bakeries, and businesses.
Bellies Not Bins is run by the Hadfield Coming Together (HCT) group, which aims to bring the community together to help and support people through poverty or times of need.
HCT enhances opportunities and learning to create a healthier and more responsible lifestyle, healthy eating, budgeting, recycling through regular signposting, and activities provided at low or no cost to the community.
Throughout the pandemic, the Government has delivered an unprecedented package of support to protect jobs and businesses and injected billions into the welfare system for those in most need.
Recognising that some restrictions on the economy continue, the Covid Local Support Grant (previously known as the Covid Winter Grant) has been extended for a final time, with a further investment of £160 million to cover the period up to 30th September.
This temporary support will help families get back on their feet as the economy recovers and the vaccine rollout continues.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, said:
“I volunteered at Bellies Not Bins in Hadfield, putting together weekly food packages to local families in need, working with Labour Councillor Ollie Cross.
“It’s a brilliant initiative supported by some wonderful donors and all the volunteers are lovely. It was good to lend a hand again and it’s always nice to have a cross-party chat with Ollie too.”
