Robert Largan MP was pleased to welcome veteran local journalist Nigel Skinner, Editor of the Glossop Chronicle, to a reception at No. 10 Downing Street recently.
The reception, hosted by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lucy Frazer, was an opportunity to thank local community media champions from across the country for all their hard work.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“Our local newspapers are essential for democracy. They do a vital job informing the public and holding elected officials, myself included, to account.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Nigel to Downing Street, as a representative of everyone at the Chronicle and all those who work tirelessly to help inform the public in High Peak, and celebrate the work of our local journalists.”
Lucy Frazer, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, said:
“Local journalism helps local areas stay connected, generates local pride and keeps communities engaged in local issues. Local journalists capture the heart of our communities and make sure politicians are doing their jobs by holding them to account.
“It was wonderful to be joined by local journalists across the country in Downing Street last week – from community news sites, radio shows and free sheets – to thank them for their hard work to keep communities connected.”
