Chinley, Buxworth & Brownside Community Association have hailed the saving of Chinley & Buxworth Community Centre.
The Government have this week awarded £250,000 for the rebuilding project, which local Member of Parliament Robert Largan MP has warmly welcomed.
The funding in principle comes from the Government’s Community Ownership Fund, which was set up to save community assets at risk of loss and empower communities to shape the things that matter to them.
The Community Association has publicly praised the funding, saying that it is “a perfect fit for our project” and that the decision by the Government was “fantastic news.”
The Association have also clarified that whilst they are “still in the process of securing the final monies needed behind the scenes” through fundraising, but that they are “now confident that we can secure the funding necessary.”
The start date for construction is currently targeted for the Spring.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, said:
“This is such brilliant news for Chinley and Buxworth. I am so pleased that the Government has, once again, shown confidence in the people of the High Peak and approved this funding.
“This £250,000 goes a long way to helping Chinley, Buxworth & Brownside Community Association to save and rebuild the community centre, which is such an important facility for local people.
“From hundreds of millions of pounds for projects like the Hope Valley Line upgrade to hundreds of thousands for local community assets; I will continue to fight for the High Peak and all of its residents.
“A huge well done to everyone at the residents association who has been working so hard on this wonderful project. It’s been a real team effort by so many people in Chinley and Buxworth!”
