Local MP Robert Largan has welcomed the start of construction for the Glossopdale School expansion.
Robert Largan MP and Jean Wharmby, Councillor for Glossop and Charlesworth, took part in the ground-breaking ceremony as construction formally got underway.
Along with residents, the High Peak MP campaigned for this expansion for nearly three years.
The previous council administration built the new school too small, failing to take extra home building into account.
The £4 million expansion, due to be complete by next Spring, will create an extra 240 local places for children in the area.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“I am delighted that construction has now begun on the expansion of Glossopdale School.
“This is fantastic news for local parents and children, ensuring that all children in Glossopdale will be able to get a local school place from next September.
“I’m glad that the Conservative administration at Derbyshire County Council has listened to local people and approved this expansion.
“Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to make this happen. When we work together, we can achieve so much for our area.”
