High Peak MP Robert Largan has raised concerns about the findings of a recent report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Following an inspection in January, CQC rated Elmwood Medical Centre in Buxton as “Inadequate”. Elmwood was rated as “Inadequate” for safety and leadership, whilst their effectiveness and responsiveness “Requires Improvement” and “Good” for caring.
The practice was previously rated as “Good” overall and “Good” in all the areas assessed during the previous inspection, in 2018.
Mr Largan has since met with Elmwood Medical Centre to discuss CQC’s findings. NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board has also met with the medical practice and further meetings are scheduled to support the practice to put measures in place to improve the quality of care for patients.
CQC’s report sets out clear guidance on the specific improvements needed to return to the previous “Good” rating.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“I am concerned by the findings of CQC’s latest inspection of Elmwood Medical Centre.
“I have since met with the practice to discuss CQC’s report and to find out what steps they will be taking to improve the care they provide. I will continue working with the local NHS to drive up standards in High Peak and improve patient safety.
“I am also determined to increase local access to GPs and improve healthcare locally. That’s why I’m working with Derbyshire NHS on plans for a major new health centre for Buxton.”
