High Peak MP Robert Largan has expressed his disappointment at the withdrawal of the X57 bus route between Sheffield and Manchester via Glossop.
The X57 bus route is currently operated by Hulleys of Baslow between Sheffield, Ladybower Reservoir, Glossop and Manchester. Under current plans, this route will be withdrawn from 9th January 2022.
The 257 bus route will increase its frequency to hourly between Ladybower reservoir and Sheffield, in order to replace lost capacity on this route.
Despite this, Robert Largan has vowed to continue fighting for better local public transport on a cross-party basis, and is campaigning to get the 236 bus service reinstated.
The 236 bus service was discontinued in September 2020, as Northwestern Buses was facing financial difficulties, leaving many in Glossopdale without a public transport link to Ashton College or Tameside Hospital.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“I am really disappointed that the X57 bus service will be withdrawn from January.
“This service was a useful addition to our public transport network, providing an easy and efficient link to Manchester, Manchester Airport and Sheffield, whilst also promoting tourism to Ladybower Reservoir.
“I live locally in Glossop, and I am committed to fighting for better local public transport for our area.
“Although we have experienced setbacks, I am keen to work on a cross-party basis to improve our local services, and get a proper replacement for the old 236 bus service.”
