MP for High Peak, Robert Largan, visited Manchester Airport to look at the progress being made on its new ‘super-terminal’.
The £1 billion investment will double the size of Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2. There will be 60 check-in desks in total in the new arrivals hall. Passengers will be able to walk through from the existing T2 check-in to use the new facilities.
The visit underlined the importance of the aviation industry both in creating jobs and in improving regional connectivity.
Robert has used his position on the Transport Select Committee to question ministers about what can be done to restart the aviation industry, to help protect jobs and speed up the recovery.
As a member of the Transport Select Committee, he took part in an inquiry into the impact of the pandemic on the aviation industry and Robert jointly published a report on the subject with the Select Committee.
The aviation sector, like other sectors of the economy, has drawn on the unprecedented package of measures that the Chancellor announced to support businesses through the Coronavirus outbreak. Over £6 billion of support has gone to the aviation and aerospace sector.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“The new terminal at Manchester Airport is looking fantastic already. When complete, the project will significantly increase the Airport’s capacity, and make the whole check-in process much easier for passengers.
“A huge number of local jobs rely on the Airport directly or indirectly, so this investment is really important for the future.”
