High Peak MP Robert Largan recently spent an evening with the Peak District Moorland Group up in the hills around Glossop, taking part in a count of mountain hares. 

The Peak District is home to England’s only population of mountain hares, and the Peak District Moorland Group are carrying out a survey to measure hare numbers. 

The count is to establish a baseline population so that the mountain hare numbers can be carefully monitored in future.

“Even our High Peak MP, Robert Largan, came out to see Mountain Hares. It’s great to have an MP that is happy to come out and see what is actually on the ground.”

“I’m very pleased to report that the moors are crawling with mountain hares. Even with poor visibility due to fog, we saw lots of hares. They are easy to spot due to their gorgeous winter white coats.
