Following the success of his campaign to finally build the Mottram Bypass & Glossop Spur Road, High Peak MP Robert Largan has launched the campaign to build the key second phase of the bypass around Tintwistle.
Last week (16 November), after over 50 years of waiting, the Secretary of State for Transport confirmed that a Development Consent Order has been approved for the Mottram Bypass & Glossop Spur Road.
This followed High Peak MP Robert Largan’s long-running petition to build the bypass which had been signed by nearly 4,000 local residents.
The bypass will alleviate congestion on the roads around Glossop and Hadfield by bypassing Woolley Lane and Mottram Moor. Now Mr Largan is pushing for a second phase of the bypass around Hollingworth and Tintwistle.
The local MP is also working with local residents on a proposal for a “Village Gateway” traffic calming scheme for Tintwistle. At Mr Largan’s request, Highways England carried out a study which concluded that such measures are needed locally.
To show local support for the projects, Mr Largan has launched a petition which will be presented to Parliament. You can sign his petition online at the following address: www.robertlargan.co.uk/tintwistletoo
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“After over half a century of waiting, I am delighted that the Government has officially approved the Mottram Bypass and Glossop Spur Road.
“But I’m not stopping here. I will not rest until the second phase of the bypass has been built around Tintwistle.
“If we’re going to secure the extra funding needed for a “Village Gateway” traffic calming scheme and for the key second phase of the bypass around Tintwistle, we need to demonstrate the strength of local support.
“That’s why I’ve launched a special petition in support of the projects, which I will be presenting to Parliament. You can sign the petition and show your support online at www.robertlargan.co.uk/tintwistletoo.
“Let’s work together to make the High Peak an ever better place to live!”
