Last week (23 June), local MP Robert Largan presented a petition in the House of Commons on behalf of local Councillor Eva Lawson calling on Royal Mail to build an accessible post box in Hayfield.
At present, residents rely on the post box inside the post office, and when the post office is closed, they are forced to cross the busy A624 to access any other post box, causing difficulties for the elderly, disabled and families with small children.
The petition was organised by local Councillor Eva Lawson and has been signed by hundreds of villagers.
Mr Largan has already written several times to Royal Mail to formally request an additional post box for the village, although Royal Mail have so far refused.
Mr Largan has now written again to Royal Mail and invited them to visit the village to meet with him and Councillor Eva Lawson, so they can make the case for a new post box in person.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“Thank you to the hundreds of residents in Hayfield who have signed Councillor Eva Lawson’s petition. Eva and I have been working hard to secure a more accessible post box for the village.
“I have been disappointed by Royal Mail’s dismissive responses to date.
“I have now written again to Royal Mail and invited them to visit the village to meet with Eva and I, so that we can make the case for a new post box in person.”
