Recently, MP for High Peak Robert Largan, met Alan Medhurst, owner of Pindale Farm Outdoor Centre, in Hope Valley.
Alan started his business from derelict farm buildings in January 1988. Pindale Farm provides low-cost camping and basic barn accommodation for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme groups, Scouts, the cadet forces and the general public.
The accommodation is in seven self-contained, self-catering units. They have made alterations to the accommodation to ensure social distancing is adhered to, and provide additional cleaning products.
Robert has been raising the plight of hostels and bunkhouses with ministers in Parliament. Last May, Robert called for an extension of the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme until October, and a date for the reopening of businesses like Pindale Farm.
With all school-led expeditions cancelled this year, Robert has written to the Secretary of State for Education urging him permit Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme expeditions to run again.
Robert commented:
“It was great to visit the Pindale Farm Outdoor Centre in the Hope Valley, who provide low-cost accommodation in a beautiful location for such a variety of worthy youth activities.
“Sites like Alan’s are essential for the provision of these formative experiences and giving our kids the best possible start in life.”
