High Peak MP Robert Largan has urged the local Council to use common sense when it comes to scheduling major road repairs around Buxton.
Derbyshire County Council intends to carry out complex geotechnical repairs on Long Hill between Fernilee and Whaley Bridge over the coming winter, meaning that the road will be closed for several weeks. Subject to weather conditions, the Council expects this route to be reopened by March 2022.
The construction of a new roundabout at Fairfield Common is also anticipated to start in February 2022, with temporary traffic lights planned on the A6 for part of this project.
Robert Largan MP is calling on Derbyshire County Council to ensure that these schemes do not coincide with each other to minimise disruption for road users.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, said:
“Whilst I understand that the works need to be completed as soon as possible, I am concerned at the prospect of two main routes out of Buxton being disrupted by major roadworks at the same time.
“Roadworks on both Long Hill and the A6 would cause chaos for road users around Buxton, increase journey times, and cause traffic backlogs in surrounding areas.
“I am, therefore, calling on the Council to ensure that the closure of Long Hill does not clash with the building of the new roundabout on the A6 and to publish a firm plan for both projects as soon as possible.”
