Local MP Robert Largan recently visited Whitehough, Chinley, to talk to residents and offer support to those affected by the flooding at the bottom of Whitehough Head Lane and Forge Road.
The flooding issues in this area of Whitehough are longstanding, dating back to when the A6 Chapel-en-le-Frith by-pass was constructed and opened in 1987 but has worsened significantly with the new development at Forge Manor.
There is an ongoing dispute between the developer Wainhomes and High Peak Borough Council. The development has been left half-finished, causing many issues for residents, with unadopted roads, unmaintained drains, and streetlights not working.
Robert has been trying to get them both back around the table to resolve the issue, and Wainhomes has agreed to carry out the most urgent work needed, but a long-term solution is required.
Councillor Chris Sizeland has been working closely with the residents on the flooding, and Robert is taking the case up with the Council and the Environment Agency.
High Peak Borough Council has now set a committee date in October for Wainhomes’ application to a condition of their original application. If there is a positive outcome, construction should recommence immediately.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, said:
“I’ve been in Whitehough talking to residents affected by the flooding, checking that they’re safe, and offering any help.
“I’m trying to get Wainhomes and the High Peak Borough Council back around the table to sort this out.
“Wainhomes has agreed to carry out the most urgent work needed, but a long-term solution badly needs sorting.
“It’s increasingly clear we’re going to get more extreme weather and heavier rainfall more frequently, so we must work together to tackle issues like this and prevent them from getting worse in future.”
