High Peak MP Robert Largan recently visited Tunstead Quarry, run by Tarmac, a major local employer in Buxton.
Robert Largan MP met Dwight DeMorais, Managing Director of Tarmac, to discuss a range of issues, including decarbonisation, minerals planning, funding for local roads and the challenges posed by the pandemic for the business.
Tunstead Quarry is one of the largest limestone quarries in Europe. Lime produced at the quarry is used in manufacturing processes and applications, including electricity generation, water treatment, soil stabilisation, and steel manufacturing.
The quarry will have a crucial role in constructing the high-speed rail link, HS2, and other major national infrastructure projects. They are forming part of the Government’s strategy to level up and build back better from the pandemic, demonstrating the importance of Buxton’s Tunstead Quarry on a national scale.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“I visited Tunstead Quarry near Buxton to discuss a range of issues, including decarbonisation.
“Tarmac is a major local employer and will play a crucial part in providing the raw materials for the construction industry, a vital component in efforts to invest in our infrastructure.
“Let’s work together to build back better.”
