Local MP, Robert Largan has welcomed improvements to New Mills Newtown Station, following a meeting with Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern this week.
Northern confirmed works are being carried over the next few days to install new customer information screens at New Mills Newtown station, with screens being installed on both platforms, in the ticket hall and at the car park entrance.
During the meeting, Robert and Northern discussed the ongoing Government consultation on Manchester rail services and how this could affect rail services in the High Peak.
Robert voiced his clear opposition to option A, which would see hourly services with additional peak time trains on the Manchester Piccadilly to Buxton line, in comparison to option B and C which would see half-hourly services all day on the same line.
Northern’s legacy rolling stock refurbishment programme is now complete. The works include fitting a disabled toilet, new seat covers and cushions, deep cleaning, new flooring and LED lighting, onboard automated announcements, new onboard and passenger information screens and wi-fi.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“I’m pleased that these information screens are being installed. This is a small but positive step to provide a better service for passengers.
“At the meeting, Northern told me that I raise more issues and take up more cases with them than any other MP.
“I'll take it as a compliment! I'm proud to be working hard to fight for better services for the High Peak.”
