TSB has announced the national launch of its ‘Safe Space Partnership’ with the domestic abuse charity, Hestia. High Peak MP Robert Largan has welcomed this commitment to do the right thing for TSB customers and the communities.
The partnership includes participation from the TSB Buxton branch, providing a safe space for victims of domestic violence and abuse. TSB is the first bank to launch a partnership like this, and has already successfully trialled the scheme in Hereford, Shropshire, and Worcestershire.
Hestia data shows a near 40 per cent increase in people trying to access specialist support during the first lockdown, and the charity anticipates similar future demand, as three thousand victims sought help between April and September last year.
Against this backdrop, and to help support the local communities where the bank operates, specialist training has been delivered to TSB branch employees across the country to enable them to advise and assist on numerous issues including financial coercion, human trafficking, and other criminal activity.
Victims can use a private room to make telephone calls, speak to a trained staff member, and get a referral to local police officers. The support is available to both TSB customers and members of the general public. The branch rooms set aside for Safe Spaces adhere to current health and safety regulations, ensuring people can still visit safely and in line with coronavirus restrictions.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“I am really pleased to see the launch of this important partnership between TSB and Hestia. This past year has been so difficult for everyone in the High Peak, and we all have to pull together to help the most vulnerable in our local community—particularly when their vulnerability is not outwardly apparent.
“In Westminster, I was proud to vote for the passage of the Domestic Abuse Act.
“Government can do a lot to help, but greater cooperation between businesses and charities will help transform so many lives in High Peak.”
