High Peak MP Robert Largan recently visited Buxton Riding School, to attend a session run by Helen Atkin Riding for The Disabled Group.
The visit from Robert Largan MP follows the completion of the new indoor arena earlier this year, which provides protection from Buxton’s weather and enables sessions to take place in the evenings.
Helen Atkin Riding for The Disabled Group provides riding therapy for local disabled children and adults using selected horses and ponies.
Mr Largan’s visit follows public recognition of the important work the charity carries out. Former Buxton volunteer Wendy Howe recently received the Riding for the Disabled Association President’s Award from the Princess Royal for her outstanding work in supporting riding therapy for disabled people of all ages across the High Peak.
Helen Atkin Riding for The Disabled Group are always looking for more volunteers to help out. You can volunteer by contacting Deborah Ward on 07490 516 060 or email [email protected].

Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“It was great to see a session take place in the brand-new indoor arena.
“It was a genuine delight to be there and see the positive impact on the riders. It was especially nice to chat to the volunteers and the mums of many of the riders. The riding sessions mean so much to everyone involved.
“Please do volunteer to help out if you can. I’ve no doubt it would be an amazingly rewarding experience.
“It was really quite an emotional morning and so much fun!”
