The long-anticipated Hope Valley Explorer bus service has been cancelled for the 2020 summer season due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Local MP Robert Largan has been raising awareness of this announcement among High Peak residents.
This service, first introduced last summer, allows people coming to the Hope Valley by train to visit the National Park without using their cars.
Visitors from Chesterfield, Dronfield and Sheffield could use the bus service to visit local beauty spots such as the Derwent Dams, Edale and Castleton.
It has been confirmed that the bus service will return for an extended season in 2021.
The Hope Valley Explorer is a three-year seasonal pilot scheme funded by the Peak District National Park Authority and operated by Stagecoach.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“I’ve been campaigning for improved public transport in the Peak District. In ordinary times, the Hope Valley Explorer would be a really helpful way of reducing traffic on High Peak’s roads. However, with the social distancing measures, it is understandable that this decision has been made.
“For now, I would urge all High Peak residents to keep practicing social distancing and exercising responsibly. When this crisis has passed, we will be able to welcome visitors back to the Peak District and reopen this useful bus service.”
