High Peak MP Robert Largan has today called on High Peak Borough Council to resolve problems with bin collections in parts of the borough.
Robert has been contacted by many local residents concerned about the impact of failed bin collections, particularly on Start Lane and New Horwich Road in Whaley Bridge, with some recycling bins being left unemptied for almost a month.
Local residents are becoming increasingly concerned about ongoing missed collections, with some reporting rubbish piling up on streets and increased problems with vermin.
The local MP has been taking up these issues with High Peak Borough Council, who have blamed missed collections of both the green-lidded and brown bins across the High Peak on “staff absence relating to COVID-19 and general sickness”.
However, with the recent removal of all remaining COVID-19 restrictions, Robert has urged High Peak Borough Council to resolve these staffing problems as soon as possible to ensure that all High Peak residents receive the service they are paying for from their local council.
Robert Largan, Member of Parliament for High Peak, commented:
“Many local people have contacted me to express their concern about missed bin collections, particularly in Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley, Combs and Wash.
“Several residents have even reported bins that have not been emptied for over a month, with some becoming concerned at litter spilling out onto our streets and possible problems with pests.
“With the removal of all remaining COVID-19 restrictions, it is time for High Peak Borough Council to get a grip and resolve their staffing problems once and for all.
“Bin collections are an essential function of any local council, and all High Peak residents deserve to receive the service they are paying for with their council tax”.
