High Peak MP Robert Largan recently visited Padfield Community Primary School to speak to children in Years 5 & 6 and answer their questions.
During the Q&A, Mr Largan answered plenty of tough questions on a wide array of subjects: from what he gets up to in Parliament to climate change, the cost-of-living, what football team he supports and what would have happened if Guy Fawkes hadn’t been caught.
The children then took the opportunity to tell Mr Largan all about their student-led initiatives. First up were the ‘Friendly Frogs’ – pupils helping to resolve problems in the playground and together tackle poor mental health.
Next were the Sports Council and the Sports Leaders, whose responsibilities included promoting staying active and healthy eating, leading games in the playground and, most importantly, ensuring that all children get involved.
Finally, the Councillors and ‘Ivengers’ told the local MP all about their respective responsibilities, such as helping to organise assemblies on everything from hand washing to internet safety.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“I had a lovely afternoon at Padfield Primary School, discussing everything from friendly frogs to mouse droppings.
“The children were brilliant and a huge credit to both the school and the High Peak.
“I’m very proud to stand up for our local schools!”
