Crossroads Derbyshire recently welcomed MP for High Peak, Robert Largan. Robert praised Crossroads, a local charity, for the vital support and services they provide to domestic abuse victims.
In July, Robert helped to raise over £500 for Crossroads Derbyshire after having his lockdown beard shaved off. You can still donate via his JustGiving page at https://justgiving.com/fundraising/robert-largan.
Robert welcomed the introduction of the Domestic Abuse Bill to Parliament. The Bill creates a legal definition of domestic abuse, making clear that it can be financial, verbal and emotional, as well as physical and sexual, and that—critically—it is about patterns of abuse over time.
Measures in the Bill also include the introduction of new Domestic Abuse Protection Notices and Domestic Abuse Protection Orders to further protect victims and place restrictions on the actions of offenders.
You can call the free 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline, run by Refuge, at 0808 2000 247 or visit https://www.nationaldahelpline.org.uk to receive help.
You can also get help from the Derbyshire Domestic Abuse Helpline at 08000 198 668. Any High Peak resident can call and access local domestic abuse services
For emergency medical or police help, you should call 999. If you are unable to talk, stay on the line and dial 55 when prompted by the operator. This will let emergency services know that they are handling a domestic abuse incident.
Robert Largan MP commented:
"Crossroads Derbyshire do such important work supporting victims of domestic abuse. That’s why I raised funds for them when I shaved off my lockdown beard, and why I was proud to vote for the Domestic Abuse Bill in Parliament.”
