High Peak MP Robert Largan has, in a phone call to Acting Chief Executive, Andrew Stokes, urged High Peak Borough Council to pay out the cash grants owed to businesses as soon as possible.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer previously announced a generous cash grant scheme to help the smallest businesses with their cash flow and to cope from the loss of trade caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
However, a large number of local businesses had flagged that they have been yet to receive the cash grant.
The High Peak MP took mattes into his own hands by calling the Council’s Acting Chief Executive and called for the payments to be made to support local businesses urgently.
Following the call, it has now been confirmed that the first payments will take place today (31st March) and that the Council will be contacting all businesses that it does not have bank information for to allow them to make payments to those businesses as soon as possible.
Businesses will be asked to fill in their details here: www.highpeak.gov.uk/Coronavirus-Business-Financial-Support
Robert Largan MP commented:
“Lots of local businesses have been contacting me about the cash grants the Chancellor recently announced. This afternoon I called Andrew Stokes, Acting Chief Executive of the Council, and urged him to make certain these cash grants are paid to eligible High Peak businesses as a matter of urgency.
“It’s vital that we all work together to support businesses and the whole community through this difficult time.”
