NatWest have just announced that they will be closing both their Buxton and Glossop branches next year.
The Buxton branch is due to close on 14 February 2022 and the Glossop branch on 2 March 2023.
High Peak MP Robert Largan has contacted NatWest and asked them to provide support for customers who are unable to switch to online banking, particularly older and vulnerable customers.
Mr Largan is also seeking urgent clarity on what support is in place to staff employed by both branches.
NatWest customers will be able to use local post offices to take out cash, check their balance or make a deposit.
All banking details including sort codes, account numbers, standing orders and Direct Debits will remain the same and debit cards, paying-in books and cheque books can continue to be used.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“This is obviously very disappointing news, especially for the regular customers and branch staff. There has been a long running trend of high street bank branch closures, often without sufficient support for customers who are more in need of branch access.
“NatWest Glossop is my own local bank branch, so I am affected too.
“I urge NatWest to provide urgent clarity on the future for branch staff and to provide all possible support to their customers who rely on face-to-face banking.”
