Lloyds Bank have just announced that they will be closing their New Mills branch and cashpoint from 17th August 2023.
This follows the recent closures of the Buxton and Glossop NatWest branches earlier this year.
High Peak MP Robert Largan has been in contact with Lloyds Bank, who have confirmed that the closure is down to the reduction in usage of the branch, which now sees less than half of the customers visit the branch than there were five years ago.
The MP also asked Lloyds Bank to provide support for customers who are unable to switch to online banking, particularly older and vulnerable customers.
Lloyds have confirmed that staff will be on hand to help in-branch until it closes, following which a community banker will visit the area regularly to offer support and guidance.
Lloyds will publish more information on this at lloydsbank.com/communitybanker.
Mr Largan also raised concerns about the staff who work at the branch and is pleased to be able to confirm that none of the branch staff will be made redundant. All have had offers made to them to move them to alternative branches.
Lloyds customers will be able to use local post offices to take out cash, check their balance or make a deposit.
All banking details including sort code, account number, standing orders and Direct Debits will remain the same and debit cards, paying-in books and cheque books can continue to be used.
The nearest alternative branch for customers to use is at 2 High Street East in Glossop.
The nearest alternative cashpoint to use once the Lloyds Bank cashpoint closes will be at Sainsbury's on Torr Top Street, which is just a couple of minutes' walk away.
Lloyds customers can check for more details at lloydsbank.com/branchfinder.
Any personal customers with questions about the closure can call Lloyds on 0345 300 0000 and any business customers can call 0345 072 5555.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“There has been a long running trend of high street bank branch closures and I am disappointed that Lloyds Bank have chosen to close their New Mills branch..
“Having been in contact with Lloyds, I am pleased to confirm that they have agreed to help existing customers with their arrangements, including providing a community banker for the area for some time following the closure.
“I urge Lloyds Bank to stick to the commitments they have made and to provide all possible support to their customers who rely on face-to-face banking.”
