Robert Largan MP has welcomed the announcement that 178 projects across the UK will receive extra funding to support grassroots football in their local communities.
Projects in every corner of the UK have been selected for Local Football Facility Plans, drawn up by the Football Foundation. They will receive funding to increase participation in sport, including for women and disabled players.
This extra funding includes £25,000 for New Mills Juniors Football Club in High Peak. The investment from the Government, the Football Association, and the Premier League, will create and improve football pitches, changing rooms, and pavilions.
The Government has invested £39 million to upgrade football facilities in England this financial year.
Over the next four years, a package of investment worth £230 million will build or improve up to 8,000 football pitches across the UK—supporting the construction or refurbishment of clubhouses, changing facilities, and community buildings.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“We have some fantastic football clubs in High Peak, which do so much for children and young people, including New Mills Juniors.
“I am delighted that they will benefit from £25,000 from the Government, the FA, and the Premier League.
“This will support upgrades to changing rooms, pitches, and pavilions—widening access so that even more local people can benefit from high quality sports facilities.
“This is really positive news, and I look forward to seeing what they do with this investment.”
Sports Minister, Nigel Huddleston, commented:
“We are ramping up UK Government funding to improve access to high quality sports facilities for the underprivileged and underrepresented across England.
“This investment will ensure more people can enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of these facilities in their local communities.”
