The Government has written to councils with guidance urging them to reopen public toilets. Local MP Robert Largan has praised this action and is calling on the local councils to follow this guidance.
This has been a long-running campaign for the High Peak MP, focused on helping businesses and local councils to work together to make high streets easier and more enjoyable places to shop.
The local MP is also pushing for public toilets to be made exempt from business rates. This would make it easier for councils to provide more public toilets.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“I know lots of High Peak residents have been frustrated about shuttered public toilets, and this is something that I have been raising repeatedly for a long time now. Given the reports about people urinating in the streets recently, this is now even more important as we emerge from lockdown.
“It may seem like a small thing, but having good public toilet facilities in our town centres across the High Peak is really important for the visitors we will be welcoming back, and for residents who shop locally and support our high streets: especially for those with hidden disabilities.”
