High Peak MP Robert Largan has welcomed the payment of the Government discretionary grants for small businesses, including canal boats that were previously outside the scope of existing support measures.
This builds on the unprecedented financial assistance the Government has already provided to businesses through the pandemic, with loans, business rates relief and furlough support.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“After my extensive lobbying of ministers on behalf of several local businesses, the Government announced a discretionary fund for local councils, designed to help businesses that fall between the cracks of other support schemes.
“I have also been pushing High Peak Borough Council to get this discretionary grant scheme up and running as soon as possible.
“I’m delighted that High Peak Borough Council has released these funds to small businesses, including canal boat businesses which were facing an uncertain future.
“This support will make a huge difference to employers and employees across the constituency, but we now need to get back to work and kick-start the economy to safeguard livelihoods in the months and years ahead.”
