Local MP Robert Largan visited Tintwistle Conservative Club last month for a Q&A session.
The MP regularly holds special ‘Your Local with Largan’ events across the High Peak, giving residents the chance to grill their MP in a more informal setting, while supporting local businesses.
Top of the agenda for residents was frustration with Northern Rail, which is currently running a reduced timetable.
Throughout the Covid-19 restrictions, Northern Rail reduced the frequency of trains on the Glossop to Manchester line. Unfortunately, despite the lifting of COVID restrictions, a full train service has not yet been returned to the people of Glossopdale.
Mr Largan launched a petition back in March for constituents to sign, urging Northern Rail to reinstate the services that they have suspended.
The petition currently stands at over 1,000 signatures and the High Peak MP is hopeful many more residents will sign it.
The reduced timetable has worsened the situation in Glossop, largely due to the simultaneous numerous roadworks in the area.
Residents feel that inadequate public transport provision is encouraging residents to use their cars—at a time when these residents should be able to rely on public transport as means of avoiding the roadworks.

“I always love visiting Tintwistle and giving local people the chance to grill me.
“I’m committed to being an accessible Member of Parliament, being available to help people in any way that I can.
“I’ll be doing lots more ‘Your Local with Largan’ events over the next few weeks and months.”
