High Peak MP Robert Largan questioned the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care in Parliament this week.
Mr Largan raised the need to restore GP services, following his recent High Peak GP Appointment Survey. The local MP also asked the Health Minister to prioritise a new major healthcare centre for Buxton.
Robert Largan MP asked the Secretary of State:
“Hundreds of local people have responded to my High Peak GP Surgeries’ Survey – I look forward to presenting ministers with the results shortly. One of the top concerns has been about how we can improve access to primary care. One way to deliver this is by finally building a major new healthcare centre for Buxton. The local NHS already own a suitable town centre location with outlying planning permission – all they require now is the capital funding. Derbyshire Community Health Services have submitted a very strong bid – which I’m supporting. So, will the Secretary of State meet with me to discuss how we can deliver this and improve healthcare for Buxton and the whole High Peak?”
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the Rt Hon Sajid Javid, replied:
“Yes, I will. I’ve taken a look at that previous bid and I was trying to understand why it wasn’t taken forward. But, as he says, there’s a revised bid. I would like to look carefully at that, and I would also like to reassure my hon. Friend that there is more funding available for such capital projects and I would be happy to discuss that with him.”
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“I have long campaigned for a major new healthcare centre in the High Peak.
“Derbyshire Community Healthcare Services have submitted a very strong bid for a new healthcare centre in Buxton, which I’m proud to support.
“I am pleased that the Government have agreed to consider the bid, and confirmed that more capital funding for projects like this is available.
“But more work remains to be done. I am determined to keep fighting for better public services across the High Peak.”
