In April, local MP Robert Largan launched the High Peak Heroes awards. The awards were designed to recognise those who have gone above and beyond to help others during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Since then, Robert has received hundreds of nominations from residents across the High Peak.
Leon Haynes at The Surrey Arms in Glossop received the most nominations, for his work in delivering shopping and prescriptions to the vulnerable, whilst also keeping local people connected online.
Earlier this month, Robert visited Leon to present him with the award and thank him for his work.
Recognition was paid too to community groups like High Peak Community & Voluntary Support.
Robert has also written to the staff at Regency Hall, Whitfield House, and Goyt Valley care homes following countless nominations, in addition to Queen's Court Day Centre.
Over the coming weeks, Robert will also be meeting with other winners, including Corrina Finn from the G52 community group, Lia Roos at the Fairfield Residents’ Association, Helen and Phil Flanagan of the Peels Arms, and Charles Lawley.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“Many have found themselves isolated from family and friends during recent months, and the work of those like Leon in keeping us connected has been vital.
“I set up the awards scheme to give recognition to our unsung local heroes, and I’ve been blown away by the hundreds of nominations for all of the amazing things people have done to help their local communities across the High Peak.
“I couldn’t be more delighted to give out so many thoroughly deserved awards.”
