High Peak MP Robert Largan has been reselected to stand again at the next general election as the Conservative Party candidate for the High Peak.
High Peak Conservative Party members unanimously reselected the Glossop resident in a meeting of the association’s Executive Committee.
The MP was elected to Parliament in December 2019 after being first selected to stand for the seat by local party members in October 2018.
In his nearly three years as the Member of Parliament for High Peak, Mr Largan already has a substantial record of achievement including the successful reinstatement of the local breast cancer screening unit; the upgrade of the Hope Valley railway line; the approval of the Mottram Bypass & Glossop Spur Road; securing £10million to regenerate Buxton town centre; the expansion of Glossopdale School; and the creation of the annual High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair.
Thanks to the recently reselected MP’s efforts, Derbyshire has also been made an Educational Investment Area to provide additional funding for local schools.
The MP has also earned a reputation for helping local people, taking up 46,056 individual cases on behalf of his constituents since 2019 and replying to over 87,000 emails.
The MP will contest the next general election as the Conservative Party Candidate for High Peak.
This contrasts with the Labour Party, who are currently undergoing their bitterly fought selection battle, with no local candidate in the final shortlist.
According to Buxton Labour Party member Dave Newton, the selection has been “a dirty process” and Labour Party members have been “denied the opportunity to be represented by someone who lives here”.
Councillor Peter Roberts, Chairman of High Peak Conservative Association, welcomed Mr Largan’s reselection:
“I am delighted that Robert Largan has been unanimously reselected as the Conservative Party candidate for the next general election.
“Robert has worked extremely hard for local people, securing hundreds of millions of pounds of investment across the High Peak and successfully reinstating the local breast cancer screening unit.
“His very strong record speaks for itself and we are so proud to have him as a candidate at the next general election.”
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“I am honoured to have been asked to stand for election again and to be unanimously reselected as the Conservative Candidate for High Peak.
“I am proud of my record of standing up for our area, particularly securing the reinstatement of the local breast cancer screening unit, the upgrade of the Hope Valley railway line, securing £10million to regenerate Buxton town centre and the approval of the Mottram Bypass.
“I am also looking forward to continuing with the annual High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, which I created.
“Whatever happens, I will continue to go the extra mile for local people. The High Peak is a special place and I want to continue to work with you all to make it even better!”
