The Government has announced that tourism and visitor attractions will reopen in England from 4 July. Up to 560 businesses in the High Peak will benefit, following local MP Robert Largan’s support for reopening.
Thanks to the efforts and sacrifice of the British people, the UK is bringing coronavirus under control, and meeting the five tests set out by the Government needed for the safe reopening of parts of the economy.
The Government has set out further changes to lockdown measures in England, to ensure people can see more of their friends and family, help businesses get back on their feet, and allow people to return to their jobs.
As part of this careful easing, pubs and restaurants will be able to reopen, so long as they follow Covid-secure guidelines, and some leisure facilities and tourist attractions may also reopen if they can do so safely.
The Government will be publishing detailed guidance to help tourist attractions and accommodation venues in this process, including how to implement social distancing and deep cleaning protocols. A new industry standard will also be introduced by Visit England, so that the public can easily see if the venue is carrying out the new rules.
While the infection rate continues to fall, the Government has been clear that the public must continue to follow social distancing guidelines to keep the virus under control. The Government will keep all measures under constant review.
Robert commented:
“Thanks to the national effort to control the virus, we’re now able to start re-opening more of society.
“I hope High Peak residents will go out and support our newly reopened tourism and hospitality businesses, and are so vital to our local economy and jobs.
“It is vital that we all continue to follow social distancing rules and safety guidance. High Peak residents and visitors must continue to feel safe as lockdown eases, and I will continue to press the Government on this as a priority.”
