After 17 years of restoration work, the famous Buxton Crescent has opened. High Peak MP Robert Largan visited the Crescent last weekend (5th October) to see the finished result of this ambitious project.
The Crescent is a grade 1 listed building in the heart of Buxton, which has undergone significant restoration with £50 million of investment. This includes a £23.8 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Ever since the Fifth Duke of Devonshire commissioned the Crescent in the Georgian era, it has been an architectural gem and source of pride for the town. The restoration of the Crescent is putting Buxton back on the map, and will have a positive impact on the local economy.
The restoration includes an 81-bedroom luxury spa hotel, as well as 6 retail units on the ground floor. It will also provide an exciting experience for Buxton residents and tourists from across the region and beyond through 8 rooms telling the stories of Buxton’s fascinating past.
Visitors can book a tour of the Buxton Crescent Experience at buxtoncrescentexperience.com.
