Chapel-en-le-Frith C of E VC Primary School celebrated its success in the Morrisons ‘It’s Good To Grow’ scheme with a visit from Robert Largan MP.
Robert Largan MP visited the school last week to present the school with new gardening equipment secured through the scheme. The school received one of the highest numbers of tokens in the country and successfully secured new gardening kits including a mini greenhouse, a water butt, seed supplies and gardening tools.
The equipment will support pupils at the school in developing the garden areas of the school playground, whilst also helping the school in its work towards Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation. The work will allow children to develop a closer relationship with the natural world as they get hands-on experience of growing fruit and vegetables.
Morrisons launched the ‘It’s Good to Grow’ scheme last September to help inspire children to get outdoors and learn about where food comes from. Thanks to the scheme, over 71,000 pieces of gardening equipment are now being donated to Schools up and down the country including:
● 12,000 trowels
● 7,600 forks
● 2,200 watering cans
● 15,000 packets of seeds
● 2,800 pairs of gloves.
Robert Largan MP said: “A major part of any child’s education is to understand how our food is grown and supplied. Chapel-en-le-Frith C of E Primary school is doing a great job, supported by the equipment they have secured as part of the Morrisons ‘It’s Good to Grow’ scheme.”
Jade O’Reilly, at Chapel-en-le-Frith C of E VC Primary School, said: “The teachers and pupils at Chapel-en-le-Frith C of E Primary School are very grateful to Morrisons and the donation of gardening equipment. This will go a long way in helping our pupils get hands-on experience of growing fruit and vegetables and also to gain Eco-Schools Green Flag Accreditation”
Jo Hazlehurst, Community Champion at Morrisons Chapel-en-le-Frith, said: It is very important to us at Morrisons Chapel-en-le-Frith that children understand where their food comes from and how to grow it. This equipment will allow the children at Chapel-en-le-Frith C of E VC Primary School to build a fantastic knowledge base and grow their own food. The team at Morrisons Chapel-en-le-Frith look forward to seeing what the children grow over the coming weeks and months."
