High Peak MP Robert Largan made a visit to Partington Players, Glossop’s live theatre, to see how the refurbishment of their bar and club room is progressing.
Established in 1954 as the Glossop Repertory Company, Partington Players is based at the old Liberal Club, with a capacity of 120 seats. Each season they present a week-long run of six plays of a variety of genres. Partington Players also hosts a one-act play festival in early July.
In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Government provided a £1.57 billion package of grants and loans to protect Britain’s world-class cultural, arts and heritage institutions. This is the largest ever investment in UK culture and will safeguard the sector for years to come.
This came after Robert wrote an open letter to the Culture Secretary to request emergency support for British heritage and culture.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“Coronavirus has left no aspect of life untouched in the High Peak. The devastating impact of the virus has certainly left its mark on our local arts, culture, and heritage groups, and I have been busy pushing the Government to help.
“Partington Players is a great community asset at the heart of Glossop, and I am determined to do what I can to support it. The show must go on!”
