The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) has recently proposed a pay increase for MPs. This decision has been condemned by High Peak MP Robert Largan.
Last month, Robert Largan MP wrote to the interim Chair of IPSA, Richard Lloyd, to express his opposition to the proposals. The High Peak MP believes this pay rise is simply wrong at a time when people are losing their jobs and many others are facing pay cuts or freezes.
The High Peak MP asked the interim Chair of IPSA to follow the example set by the Government’s decision to freeze ministerial salaries by reversing their decision in order to maintain trust between the public and their representatives.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“This proposal by IPSA is totally indefensible. To be clear, I oppose the proposed pay increase and hope that IPSA will reconsider. If they insist on going ahead with the pay increase, then I will donate it to charity.
“I am proud to support lots of local charities already but I am keen to hear ideas and suggestions from local people for which one I should support. Let me know by contacting me on [email protected].”
