Local MP Robert Largan has welcomed Kronos Solar's decision to withdraw its current pre-application after conceding that the proposed site was unsuitable for a 77-acre solar farm.
Kronos Solar is still negotiating with High Peak Borough Council to find a suitable location for a solar farm.
Robert Largan MP launched a petition to "Save Chinley Churn Green Belt" and reject Kronos Solar’s proposal, signed by hundreds of local people.
The proposal to build a 77-acre solar farm on land just off Dolly Lane near Furness Vale and Buxworth sits wholly within the green belt. At 77 acres, the site would be large enough to include 38 football pitches.
Mr Largan has met with Kronos Solar to discuss their plans and gave a speech in Parliament outlining his concerns about the application.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
"I am pleased that Kronos Solar have withdrawn their application to build a 77-acre solar farm on the green belt on the western slope of Chinley Churn.
"As an enthusiastic supporter of renewable energy, I hope Kronos Solar and the Council can find a suitable site elsewhere that doesn't lead to the loss of green belt or impact the landscape of the National Park.
"Thanks again to everyone who took the time to share their views and support my campaign."
