The Government has announced that state schools in England will receive a £2.2 billion funding increase for next year as part of the £14 billion settlement for all schools over three years. Local MP Robert Largan has welcomed this boost for High Peak schools.
Additional funding will deliver on the Government’s commitment to level up opportunities in schools across the country, with historically underfunded areas receiving the greatest increases.
This will ensure that every school is allocated at least 2 per cent more per pupil. On average, schools will be attracting over 3 per cent more per pupil next year.
There will be a 4 per cent increase in funding for all High Peak schools, pushing total funding to £59,568,753 in 2021-22.
Per pupil funding will increase to £4,661 for primary schools (a 4.3 per cent rise), and £5,775 for secondary schools (a 3.2 per cent rise).
This represents a 3.9 per cent increase in per pupil funding in High Peak.
In a separate announcement, the Government confirmed that teachers will receive above-inflation pay rises of 3.1 per cent. This is equivalent to a £1,250 p.a. increase to average classroom teacher pay.
The Government has also announced an additional ‘catch up’ package for the next academic year, worth a total of £1 billion, to help support children and young people to catch up after the recent period of disruption to their education.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“This has been a difficult year for schools, teachers, and students in the High Peak due to Coronavirus, and with this extra investment, we can ensure pupils can catch up and get the best possible start in life.
“As someone who went to my local comprehensive in Manchester, it is really important to me that we get this right and help every child in High Peak to get a world class education.”
