Local MP Robert Largan has welcomed the forthcoming opening of the NHS Nightingale Hospital North West in Manchester.
The Government has commissioned the building of several NHS Nightingale hospitals in different parts of the country. This will take pressure off local health services and help save as many lives as possible in the High Peak and the wider region during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The hospital is located at the Manchester Central Convention complex, with 750 beds for patients who are too ill to be cared for at home but do not need acute hospital care. This will support hospitals across the region, such as Stepping Hill Hospital and Tameside Hospital.
There will be a team of consultants, doctors, nurses and other clinical staff. A senior clinical team will be onsite for 24 hours a day, seven days a week from day one of opening. The new hospital will also provide oxygen therapy, general medical care, and clinical support services, including pharmacy, pathology and imaging.
The NHS Nightingale Hospital North West is opening this week, on a phased basis, and will be used as long as it is needed to help fight the Coronavirus pandemic.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“We are witnessing the largest mobilisation in NHS history. The opening of the NHS Nightingale Hospital North West will help reduce the pressure on our local hospitals and increase the capacity of the NHS across the region.
“I want to thank everyone who is working so hard to get the NHS Nightingale Hospital North West up and running. It’s a remarkable achievement.”
