Local MP Robert Largan has welcomed the announcement that a second vaccination site will open in Buxton.
This second site in Buxton will be a pharmacy-led site and will be available through the NHS national booking system. Details of exactly where the site is going to be based and when it is opened will be confirmed soon.
This is an addition to the current vaccination centre at Buxton Medical Practice, as well as other sites across the High Peak in Chapel en le Frith, New Mills and Glossop.
Robert urged the local NHS Clinical Commissioning Group to provide this additional vaccination centre after being contacted by constituents who were unable to book online at local vaccine sites.
The NHS is prioritising the clinically vulnerable when boking vaccination appointments at local sites, so those aged over 50 are being invited to the mass vaccination centres.
The only options available on the national booking system have been in Macclesfield, Manchester, or Derby, which is difficult for people to travel to, especially for those who rely on public transport.
37,217 High Peak residents have now received at least one dose of vaccine.
Robert Largan, MP for the High Peak, commented:
“I’ve been pushing for more vaccination provision locally, so I’m delighted that this additional site in Buxton has been approved.
“I’m grateful to the local NHS for listening and opening this additional vaccination centre. I know it will make a big difference.”
“There’s still a long way to go, but the progress of the rollout has been fantastic.
“Huge thanks to the staff and volunteers who are working so hard to deliver the vaccination programme. They are doing an amazing job.”
