The UK Parliament’s Education and Engagement Service will soon be hosting their next residential UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme.
Teachers will have the opportunity to travel to Westminster to experience Parliament first-hand. Transport, accommodation and most meal costs are covered, and applications are welcome from teachers, school/college leaders and teacher training providers working with young people aged 5-18.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, has welcomed the programme, which is due to take place between 26-28 June 2023.
The course includes Q&A sessions with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Lord Speaker, Members of Parliament and Lords, talks from subject specialists, workshops devoted to key aspects of the work of UK Parliament, opportunities to explore new and exciting teaching ideas and tours of the Palace of Westminster and the Parliamentary Education Centre.
100% of teachers said they felt very confident (85%) or confident (15%) teaching about Parliament after attending the programme in January 2023. 100% rated the course as excellent and said they would recommend the Teacher Ambassador Programme to their colleagues.
It is free to apply for the three-day course and applications can be made up to Sunday 19 March 2023.

Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“This is a really good opportunity for teachers to learn more about Parliament so that they can pass on a greater understanding of democracy to High Peak’s school pupils.
“It’s a great scheme which takes teachers right into the heart of our democracy, giving a lot of insight to all involved. I’d encourage everyone who can to get involved.”
Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, commented:
“In my view you are never too young to get involved in democracy and to make things happen – so giving teachers an insight into our world is a great way to pass that message back to the classroom.
“We also appreciate having the chance to talk to teachers about their experiences, to thank them for their hard work, and to see how we can work together to get children interested in politics.”
