Robert Largan, Conservative Candidate for High Peak. has welcomed £10.3million from the Conservative Government for maintaining and improving school buildings in Derbyshire.
This year, £1.4 billion will be invested in maintaining and improving school buildings across the country so children get off to the best start in buildings fit for purpose for the future.
The cash boost includes over £430 million to carry out essential maintenance projects at over 1,200 schools and £780 million for councils and education trusts to invest in maintaining and renewing their schools.
Robert Largan welcomed money from the £433 million Condition Improvement Fund for St George's Church of England Primary School in New Mills and Peak School in Chinley. This funding will provide support for the replacement of defective existing flat roof at St George’s and the reconfiguration of fire exits at Peak School.
Since 2015, this Fund alone has allocated nearly £2 billion for over 6,000 projects at more than 3,000 schools all over the country.
This announcement means the Conservatives have spent £7.4 billion on school buildings since 2015.
Commenting, Robert Largan said:
‘Schools in the High Peak are more than just buildings, they are the centres of our community.
‘The £10.3million from the Conservative Government for school buildings this year will help make sure our schools are in the right condition for local children to learn the knowledge and skills they will use for the rest of their lives.
‘Today’s funding will also target those schools with some of the most urgent need, working to try and make sure children in the High Peak never spend time in buildings that aren’t fit for purpose.’
