High Peak Borough Council’s Planning Committee has voted to reject the planning application to build houses on the old Shire Hill Hospital site.
The application was to build 52 homes on the hospital site in Old Glossop. This application is on top of several other significant housing developments in the immediate area. This site was not included in the Local Plan and is outside the ‘built-up area’ boundary of Glossop.
Like many residents, local MP Robert Largan submitted his objections to this application.
At the Planning Committee meeting, Robert Largan agreed to surrender his speaking time to Old Glossop Residents Association to allow them to speak on behalf of all those opposed to the application.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, said:
“I know many residents have been very cornered about the sheer scale of development locally.
“I believe the Planning Committee has made the right decision, which is encouraging considering many planning applications are currently in the pipeline.
“I firmly believe we need to get the proper infrastructure and public services in place before we even consider approving any further significant new housing developments.
“Well done to everyone involved in getting this outcome. As I always say, when we work together, we can make the High Peak an even better place to live.”
