Peakland Environmental Farmers (PEF) have, with the backing of High Peak MP Robert Largan, been successful in a bid for £97,000 of funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Peakland Environmental Farmers is a group of local farmers and moorland managers who have come together with environmental goals for the Peak District.
The £97,000 of funding will help 85 local farmers to create a Conservation Plan for 100,000 acres of globally important habitat and wildlife in the moorlands and uplands of the Peak District.
The Government is also implementing a new Environmental Land Management scheme, which aims to make food production in the UK more resilient and sustainable, while also preserving and improving the environment.
Peakland Environmental Farmers is advocating for farmers and helping to make the most of this new environmental scheme. This comes on top of accessing green funds such as the £97,000 from the Heritage Lottery bid.
Commenting, Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, said:
It is very encouraging to see Peakland Environmental Farmers being so successful in conserving and protecting our countryside.
I will continue working closely with Peakland Environmental Farmers to protect the Peak District’s unique environment and support our local farmers!
