Local MP Robert Largan recently visited Swizzles Matlow, the world-famous sweet maker, in New Mills.
Robert had a guided tour of the factory with the Managing Director, Jeremy Dee, to see how sweets like Parma Violets, Love Hearts, Refreshers, Drumsticks and many more are made.
Swizzels Matlow is the largest employer in the local area. The majority of their 600 employees live near the factory.
Their factory operates 24 hours a day, producing a million sweets a day, and exporting sweets to more than 20 countries.
Swizzels Matlow supports the High Peak economy in a number of ways with 20 per cent of their raw materials and packaging sourced from the North West, supporting other businesses nationally and locally.
Robert Largan MP for the High Peak said:
“I had lots of fun visiting Swizzels sweet factory in New Mills to learn precisely how they get all those messages onto Love Hearts.
“Swizzels are a major local employer and we are very proud to have Love Hearts, Refreshers, Drumsticks, Double Dips and so many other delicious sweets made right here in the High Peak.
“Obviously, I popped into the factory shop to get a few treats too.”
