Local MP Robert Largan is joining local charities in thanking local volunteers for their hard work supporting people and communities across the High Peak as part of Volunteers’ Week 2021.
Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration – now in its 37th year – of the contribution and dedication of millions of volunteers who give up their time in the service of others.
This year’s theme is ‘A time to say thanks’, recognising that people from all walks of life around the UK have taken the time to volunteer and made a huge difference to their communities every day, just as they do every year.
Volunteers’ Week is taking place during the #MonthOfCommunity. Running throughout June, the #MonthOfCommunity brings together some great organisations with a range of events including Volunteers’ Week, The Big Lunch, and Small Charity Week, and culminates in Thank You Day on 4 July. This collaborative month aims to encourage everyone to think about and join in with the wide variety of positive activities and initiatives happening in local communities across the UK.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“Volunteers have done an incredible job over the past year to support their neighbours and communities. People across High Peak have really pulled together. As more and more people are getting vaccinated, volunteers continue to go above and beyond.
“I am especially grateful to our fantastic local charities such as The Bureau in Glossop, New Mills and District Volunteer Centre, and Connex Community Support in Buxton. Together, we will get through this crisis!”
Sarah Vibert, interim chief executive at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), which supports the coordination of Volunteers’ Week, said:
“Volunteers’ Week is about recognising all of those who have delivered vital work as volunteers over the past 12 months. We should acknowledge the huge number of first-time volunteers in communities around the country, and also say thank you to all those who usually volunteer but have not been able to because of the pandemic.
“We must ensure this recognition continues. That is why, on this 37th annual Volunteers’ Week, it’s time to say: thank you volunteers!”
