News that two local good causes – Crossroads Derbyshire and Tintwistle Athletic FC – have received funding raised by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery has been welcomed by the MP for High Peak, Robert Largan.
Crossroads Derbyshire, which is a domestic abuse service working in High Peak and North Dales providing support to those fleeing domestic violence, received £17,446.00 of funding to hire a specialist children's worker to support children who have been forced to leave their homes due to domestic abuse. The cash was awarded from People’s Postcode Trust, a grant giving charity funded by the lottery players.
Tintwistle Athletic FC, a community football team, received £2,000 of funding from Postcode Community Trust to set up a walking football group for the over 50’s. Funding raised by players will help pay for weekly training, equipment and advertising the service.
Robert Largan MP said:
“It’s with thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery that these two terrific organisations have received funding.
“Crossroads Derbyshire’s work plays an instrumental role in helping those affected by domestic abuse, and the funding received from players of People’s Postcode Lottery will make a huge difference to the work they do.
“Keeping active is a key part of staying healthy, and Tintwistle Athletic FC’s walking football for the over 50’s will be a fun way for people to stay fit. I would encourage anyone interested in joining to get in touch with the football club.”
Katherine Sellar, Community Programmes Advisor at People’s Postcode Lottery added:
“It’s not just players that win with People’s Postcode Lottery – charities do too.
“It’s fantastic that funding raised by players will help Tintwistle Athletic FC and Crossroads Derbyshire – two organisations that are providing quite different, but hugely important, services to the community.”
Last year, more than £8 million raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery was distributed to grassroots projects across Britain.
The next opportunity for local charities and good causes to apply for funding will be in August 2020. Funding is available through three trusts, with each supporting projects focused on different themes.
