High Peak MP Robert Largan has condemned the illegal raves held in Greater Manchester over the weekend. 

It has been reported that 6,000 people attended the two illegal raves. Sadly these events saw the rape of an 18-year-old-woman, a fatal drug overdose, and the stabbing of three people.

The Government guidance makes it clear that gatherings larger than six people are illegal, and there should be a two-metre distance between people from different households unless they have formed a support bubble.

One suspect was arrested, and there are ongoing enquiries to find the remaining suspects in the crimes that occurred.

Robert Largan MP commented:

“The reports of illegal raves this weekend were deeply concerning. We all have a responsibility to continue social distancing in order to control the spread of the virus.

“I have spoken with Chief Superintendent Hayley Barnett from Derbyshire Police about the danger of similar events being organised in the High Peak, especially in abandoned quarries.

“We all need to act responsibly if we’re going to get the virus under control, and I will do everything I can to support the police in their efforts.”
