MP for High Peak, Robert Largan, has encouraged residents to engage with the Highways England consultation on the new Mottram Bypass and Glossop Spur.

The project will see the construction of two new link roads connecting the M67 to the A57 at Woolley Bridge. 

In August, Highways England signed a contract with construction company Balfour Beatty to build the bypass.

Since being elected, Robert has repeatedly raised the bypass in Parliament, ensuring a commitment to its construction was included in the Government’s Road Investment Strategy, and securing confirmation that a planning application for the bypass would be brought forward.

“I know we’ve had consultations before, and people will be frustrated about how long the process is, but this is an important step to permit construction to start. 

“After decades of waiting, we’re closer than we’ve ever been, and it’s important we don’t let this crucial project slip now.

"It’s important to remember that this is phase one. I will continue to push hard for the full bypass including a solution for Tintwistle as well.
